"I couldn’t ask for a more versatile pair of boots." -Scott C.

A Chelsea boot is a Chelsea boot is a...stop that thought, and meet the Holt. Designed with a narrower V-shaped elastic shaft that gives the boot a more modern look, it’s not the classic Chelsea...it’s better. With respects to the iconic Australian work boot, we added the mini-lug sole so you’re ready to tackle the city or traverse the globe. Made in exclusive colors and leathers, this isn’t your Beatles boot, but it’s a definite nod to the beginnings of rock and roll.

What's In A Name

Named after multi-instrumentalist, Dustin Holt, HELM’s founder was lucky enough to get to tour with Dustin as he played bass for a rock band he greatly admired.  Dustin is not your ordinary every day musician. He sacrifices everything expected in a “normal” life, and has worked every job imaginable to keep being able to play music with multiple bands including his own, in which he is the drummer. He’s calm, stoic and respectable, and he doesn’t ask for the limelight, but often draws it. Sounds like the Holt boot to us.

The discount makes these boots a steal

Shipping took about six days to arrive at my door step which is good considering I live five hours from their shop. Opening the box was a bit lack-luster because I wasn't hit with an over-powering leathery smell that I have come to love from other boot brands. I understand that this could be due to their specific tanning process, and possibly their lack of "leather spray" that others may or may not use. Instead, I was reminded of a smell reminiscent of a basketball leather smell kind of like an Air Force One shoe (this is not a bad thing). The big sized dust bag was a good touch and it is believed to be a standard accessory from other boot brands, i would just like to see the shoes inside the bag when delivered. Looking at both boots I did notice that the right one has creases right out of the box, but this could just be due to the leather itself, so no big deal considering that they will get creases anyways. I would like to see a more higher standard when choosing the leather to construct the boots but I understand that this is not always possible. The construction is really good! The leather is smooth to the touch, the stitching is well executed, the sole lacked jagged edges compared to the 1000 mile boot, and the color looks exactly how it is advertised on the Helm website. The color is unique and the V shaped elastic breaths new life into the traditional concept of the Chelsea boots currently on the market. The fit is a bit tight because I typically wear a 9.5 E, so my pinky toe tends to become numb if standing for more than four hours. It is believed that this minor issue will subside once the break-in has been accomplished. The heel slip is a bit brutal at the moment causing a bit of friction, simular to a Belleville combat boot, but the feeling should go away over time. I would like to see an E option for these boots in the future, but I do appreciate the EE offered from Helm. I would say that the 9.5 D fit like a 9.5 D. I am very impressed with this company so far and I plan on purchasing more boots from them, but only if they are on sale. Don't get me wrong, the quality is definitely a lot better than others, but most of the boot lineups are pretty generic looking and I personally believe that it could be hard to convince people to buy boots from Helm versus other companies that offer boots under $200. The price is still a bit high from the perspective of a weary buyer. The designs can be easily overlooked by potentially buyers, so I think Helm should stop playing it safe and come up with a design that really draws people in, besides the white strip going around the boot to justify the price. The white strip is a nice touch and adds contrast, but that being the company trademark is a bit underwhelming. I do not regret buying these boots at all, in fact, I plan on buying the same shoe in the brown color because that is how much I like their Chelsea boot. I would like to own a pair of these boots in a dark Chilli or a burgundy color because their leather is absolutely stunning. The dark grey color goes well with most of my clothes and I like how in certain lighting it could be grey, or it could be brown. I really like Helm as a company because I am a Texas native and their work, craftsmanship, and their philosophy can easily be examined in their product. I would like to see a lot more marketing, perhaps lower prices around the $250-$299 if possible, more bold designs, more width options, and a better way to differentiate their product from other boot brands. If the price remains the same, then Helm could offer something a bit more to push people to pull the trigger and own a pair because the quality is definitely there. This boot is no joke, but with other companies that are in the same price tier as Helm, I think Helm might have a really hard time coming ahead of the others because of their price point, their lack of marketing, and their lack of clot within the YouTube community, reddit, and other third party social media platforms. If it wasn't for Stridewise, I would have never discovered this company, and its a shame because the quality is far superior than Wolverine, Alen Edmond, Thursday, and perhaps Grantstone. If someone is thinking about buying these, then consider it because you will perhaps be one of the only few in your area with them on, which isn't bad at all. The photos aren't fresh out of the box photos, I have worn them all day. Shoes look brown because of lighting. I put an actual brown boot next to the Holt Greys in order for others to see the difference in color. I look forward to conducting more business with Helm and I wish you all the best in 2021.

I love 'em

Once I dialed in the right size for my Holt boots (a half size down from my usual -- exchange was fast and simple) they've been a pure joy to wear. They're beautifully made and the break-in has been easy and smooth. Plus they're almost criminally good-looking. I'm looking forward to wearing them for years.

This is my second pair of Helms. I have worn these several times and each time I have gotten compliments on them. The color is unique and go great with jeans. I couldn’t ask for a more versatile pair of boots. The hardest part is deciding which pair I’m going to wear each time.
