FOLLOW | MOMENT MOTOR COMPANY

Could also be called: The Gorgeous Electric Sports Cars Company. Follow them. For once, these beautiful classics won’t blast you with the eye watering, earth killing fumes you’d expect! That’s because Austin’s own Moment Motors has been taking vintage head-turners (think Porsches, Alphas, Minis) and transforming them into modern electric beauties that start at the press of a button, never leave you stranded, and deliver mind-blowing power. Founder/Engineer Marc Davis and his passionate South Austin team spent decades under their own beloved classics, diagnosing concerning rattles, strange noises and unusual smells before digging deep into the technology that showed them there’s a better way to own your dream car. Have an old soul of your own that could use a new heart? Reach out to Marc – and definitely ask to come by the shop for a test drive. Just ogling at the moment, like us? Feast your eyes on the Insta feed @momentmotors. Trust me, you’ll start socking away spare change into your Moment fund before long. Start your engines! Correction - Push your buttons!

ATTEND | HOT SUMMER NIGHTS AT MOHAWK: FREE SHOW WITH MAGNA CARTA, TORRE BLAKE, WAAVY JAMES

We’re fans of Magna Carta and Torre Blake bu

t are especially excited to see Waavy James. When R&B and hip-hop producers venture out from the studio to make their own records, usually it's to show the world who they are. Abe Yellen, who goes by Wavvy James, took a different approach. After touring and producing for years with Dead Oceans' Night Beds, Abe moved to Austin to produce for other artists. It wasn't until he wrote Pearls, which just dropped on 7/26, that he realized he missed honing his personal sound after years in the driver’s seat for other artists. With the likes of J. Dilla swirling with the modernity of synthy pop, Wavvy James is finally debuting this weekend. Go check him out - the whole show will be dynamite!  Doors at 8pm, accompanied by musicians Khary Alexander and Seth Anders.

LISTEN | REVISIONIST HISTORY PRESENTS: RICK RUBIN

This is a conversation between two of our favorites: Rick Rubin and Malcom Gladwell. If Rick is the American hip-hop rock god producer, and Malcom Gladwell is the Canadian author/genius Revisionist History host, then Rick + Malcom = are you kidding me global mind-blowing awesome overload. In what we hope is only the beginning of a conversation, they cover everything from Rick’s role in the very beginning of hip-hop (RUN DMC and the Beastie Boys) to his role in (re)introducing Johnny Cash to a past and new generation of artists, writers, and music listeners of the highest kind. While delving deep into Rick’s back catalogue, you realize there’s so much about the artists he worked with indisputably defining an era  – which is basically a history of contemporary music – and yet it seems they’re barely scratching the surface. (Did you catch that pun? Get it - record/vinyl/hip-hop/scratching the surface..not bad, eh?)

READ | THE MOON LISTS

Local Austin creative director and author Leigh Patterson (we are allegiant fans) just released Moon Lists, a workbook filled with questions, list-making ideas, and  prompts for taking inventory of the self. The perfect companion to the fatigue of the tech-age, device addiction and digital weariness. We’re all affected by tech and digital addiction, whether it’s us, our family/friends, or strangers walking and driving with their eyes on a screen. This book is one step in a direction of exploring parts of the mind + present tense that are new, unknown, and full of possibility. You’ve most likely heard the term, “being present.” Well here’s an exercise for breaking through creative, emotional, and transitional roadblocks. Inspired aesthetically by 1960s/70s instruction and DIY manuals, it distills the Moon Lists questions into 18 months of original prompts. We highly recommend picking up a copy.

DESIGN | HOMETOWN JERSEY

We love independent creatives, and this Jill Smith gal definitely revs our engines. Her simple concept and strong follow through makes for an impressive product. Hometown Jersey makes vintage inspired racing jerseys with hand stitched felt lettering. Club jerseys, bands, sport teams - so much potential! You pick the text and jersey color(s) and make it your own. We’ve seen some pretty silly, smart and creative ones that are downright cool as heck or laugh-out-loud good. Check them out here on Insta and you’ll get the idea. Did we mention they’re also made in the USA? Sweet!
