A Special Edition of the Saturday Six

A Special Edition of the Saturday Six

To celebrate Small Business Saturday, the staff here at HELM picked some of our favorite small businesses to support, and since there are actually seven of us....well consider this the Saturday Seven.

BROC WILSON | Blackbird Pipe Bomb Cologne

“I was given a small bottle of this cologne as a gift six years ago, and it instantly became a staple for me. The scent is warm but not overpowering, and grows with you as the day goes along. All Blackbird products are made in-house in Seattle, made of as many sustainable materials as possible, and run by really nice people. All my favorite things in a company.”

MALLORY HUBLEIN | Brooklyn Candle Company Santa Fe Candle

“I first found Brooklyn Candle Company last year while shopping at  Apt F. I love so many of their candles, but my all-time favorite to burn is Santa Fe. It’s described as a night outdoors in the desert and that is just what it evokes, with orchid cactus, wild sage, juniper, and piñon. Santa Fe is one of my favorite places and this candle is a perfect way to enjoy a little bit of the cities magic at home.”

ZACH WICHMAN | Agave Products Arroyo Backpack

This backpack was created by my once neighbor and now good friend and very talented designer, Jeff Munie, and aims to create thoughtful, modular designs that are built to last. The Arroyo, the first Flagship of Agave Products, is made in the USA and tailored for anyone looking to get outside.”

BRAD DAY | Grayers Chocolate Marl Cardigan

"It gets chilly up in the Northwest this time of year, and having a go-to sweater is a must. Grayers makes some of the best out there and them launching a chocolate brown one gives me the perfect excuse to add to my collection."

AMELIA ZIND | Dog + Bone Snap Collars & Adjustable Leashes

"Six years ago I discovered Dog + Bone after meeting Anne and Ivan at a dog costume competition in Austin, TX. I snagged one of their collars and adjustable leashes, and now their gear has been all I buy ever since. They've been along for mountain hikes, desert treks, snowy slides (not always planned), ocean swims, and many many camping trips, and they still look brand new without signs of wear and tear. The only reason I've ever needed to buy another collar is because they keep coming out with new colors. Dogs needs to change up their wardrobe once in a while too..."

JEREMY HSU | The Art Of Shoes Classes

"The Art of Shoes is a Los Angeles based small business founded by Selena McCartney that celebrates the craft of shoemaking and empowers people from all walks of life to discover their inner-creativity. She currently teaches virtual shoemaking classes including sneakers, clogs, sandals, and other seasonal styles. Shoemaking is often perceived as an inaccessible trade but Selena curates a welcoming space that underlines the artistic possibilities of footwear."

JILLIAN FINLEY | Apt F Apothecary

"Our neighbors at Apt F have the most beautifully curated apothecary goods from botanical soaps to Anima Mundi herbal cleanses. The best stocking stuffers and small tokens to make your home space feel luxurious and well traveled."
