ATTEND | Hill Country Hoedown

For this weekend only at the Fair Market building on East 5th, the Hill Country Hoedown is pulling together a long list of amazing brands to step-up your summer and outdoor adventure plans. Craft cocktails to sip, BBQ to eat, a chance to test out gear and gadgets, the opportunity to shop anything you need for that next camping trip or your backyard space, plus great giveaways - it’s all there. One of the best parts is that a portion of the proceeds goes to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation, so be sure to get your ticket and stop by.

LISTEN | Plastic Picnic

Although the band is Brooklyn-born, all four of its members moved east from the Pacific Northwest where they had played in separate projects. Meeting as strangers in New York, they quickly realized their combined talents worked well together, creating the band Plastic Picnic. With three new singlesthat just came out in 2022 and each one better than the last, we can’t wait to see what they put out next. Fans of Day Wave, Swimming Tapes, or Ten Fé - this one’s for you. Everyone else – this one is still for you.

DINE | Scorpion

Self-described as an “Eastside neighborhood Café and wine cave," Scorpion in San Antonio is a beautiful space with her an incredibly curated wine list and delicious food to pair well with it all. You can’t go wrong with anything you choose off the menu, but if you wind up with any questions, the knowledgeable and downright friendliest staff is always happy to help. Perfect for a date night, a meet-up with friends or to impress that visiting out of towner, be sure to stop by.

READ | The World of Lore

Fans of the podcast, Lore by Aaron Mahnke, will be no stranger to this collection of work. Pulling together some of his best stories and historical deep-dives, he created this three book series that's organized into monstrous creatures from folklore, wicked people from history, and terrifying places from around the globe. Even though we’ve listened to every single episode of his podcast already, we were still excited to revisit some of our favorite tales and add it to our ever-growing bookshelf.

COOK | Skinnytaste One and Done Chicken Pot Pie

Healthy, fast, and easy recipes are already our go-to during a busy week when we're trying to just find time to have a proper meal. The recipes in this book go one step further and feature meals that are made in one vessel, whether its a crock pot, sheet pan, skillet, air fryer - you name it, they cooked in it. We tried out the Chicken Pot Pie made in a skillet, and you would never have guessed that its healthy hack was to skip the cream. It definitely won't be the last time this one gets made...

FOLLOW | Kevin Chupik

Born in Texas, raised in Arizona, and traveling throughout Colorado, Utah, New Mexico and Nevada, the Southwest is embedded in Kevin Chupik's work. He explored every inch of this part of the country until he fell from a 35 foot cliff about 25 years ago, at which point his world changed from constant adventure to amazing artist. He turns out colorful and stunning prints and paintings that stir up a desire to explore the wide open spaces of the Southwestern United States whenever we look at them. See his work here or give him a follow on Instagram.
