Overall boots feel good, took me longer than anticipated to break them in. The heel counter and bend of the toe box was especially stiff during the break in. Probably need to do some jumping jacks in the boots to soften them up. Usually I buy a size down in boots but for these I would suggest true to size since they run narrow. Overall leather is good quality and the helm laces feel durable.
I received my new Helm Lou boots a few weeks ago. I’d read a lot about the break-in period, etc., but frankly, I found my boots qutie comfortable right out of the box—perhaps slightly stiff, but completely wearable. Granted, I’ve worn boots quite a bit in my life, and spent a few years in the “black boot” Army without many issues with my feet, and perhaps many people are accustomed to wearing only “soft” shoes, but I found the boots ready for regular wear immediately. They’re stylish, the sole is quite springy and feels good to walk on, and the quality and workmanship of the boots appears high. They’re not cheap, but frankly, considering the obvious high quality, I don’t consider them particularly expensive either. I would recommend these to anyone who enjoys wearing boots, and I’m sure I will purchase from Helm again next time I’m in the market for quality leather footwear.
